Journal post 10/21/2011 (Vocab)

Word #16 Treasury Bond- A debt security by the U.S. Government that is paid over a period of 10 years. Example: Gene had 5 Treasury bonds in place to save money for his son to pay for college. Sentence: After 10 years, Steve's treasury bond was paid back, giving him more money than he started with, which helped pay the last payment on his new house.

Word #17 Inflation- An increase in price for a product, comes when supply is lower than demand, such as crude oil. Example: The price inflations of food products made it harder for the poor family to put a meal on the table. Sentence: When the early snow came, it damaged many crops, cause grain price inflation, raising foor products prices.

Word #18 Gross Domestic Product: The general number of a countries economy, based on sales and profits. Example: A country such as Burkina Faso in Africa has a lower GDP than a country such as the USA. Sentence: After a new government was established, the new country's GDP went up to one of the top 5 in the world.

Word #19 Currency- A form of money, such as a peso, US dollar, or Euro. Example: In Japan, the currency used is Yen. Sentence: The US Mint produces our currency, the USD.

Word #20 Infrastructure- Any system of roads, railroads, mail delivery, or any other thing that connects and holds a country together. Example: Russia's infrastructure fell below the standard when the fall of communism neared, because of the governments lack of funds for upkeep. Sentence: The interstate system in the USA is an example of an infrastructure.
